The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have traded outfielder Randal Grichuk to the Toronto Blue Jays. In return, the Cardinals are acquiring  pitchers Dominic Leone and Conner Greene.

For the Cardinals last season, Grichuk played in 122 games, hitting .238, with 22 home runs and 59 runs batted in. The trade involving himself, comes just days after he stated he was disappointed that he’d be heading into spring training as the team’s fourth outfielder.

As for Dominic Leone, one of the relief pitchers St. Louis has acquired in the trade, he had a fairly good year in Toronto’s bullpen last season. Leone pitched in 65 games, held a 2.56 ERA, with 11 holds, a 1.052 WHIP, 81 strikeouts, in 70.1 innings pitched.

Conner Greene, 22, the other pitcher the Cardinals acquired, was drafted by Toronto in the 2013 MLB Draft. Greene has a triple digit speed fastball, with a lot of potential to be a front-end guy, but scouts say he will need to prove that he can consistently throw strikes in the minor leagues.
