Evan Longoria has won his third Golden Glove at third base. He’s won the Golden Glove in 2009,2010 and now 2017. That is a Tampa Bay Rays franchise record as he was tied with Kevin Kiermaier who had two. Kevin Kiermaier would have been nominated this season but he missed too many innings to be eligible for the award. Evan Longoria is no stranger to spectacular defensive plays. He makes even the toughest plays look super easy and he makes those plays on a consistent basis.
Some statistics that Evan Longoria racked up this season is 12 errors, 33 double plays and had a fielding position of .986 which is third in the league. Finally 11 Defensive Runs Saved which is also third in the league and his second career best in that category. He beat out Manny Machado and Jose Ramirez at third base.
Here’s a quote made by Evan Longoria on his defense and the Golden Glove award. “The Gold Glove is one of the awards when I first started playing that I always wanted to win, so to win a third one is really cool,” Longoria said in a news release. “I definitely take pride in my defense. It feels good to win it, and it feels good to win it in front of some really good players and some guys who put together good years.”
Alex Cobb was one of the pitchers nominated for the Golden Glove but Marcus Stroman got it. All three pitchers nominated were coincidentally from the American League East with Chris Sale getting a nomination too.
