Next in line in this “unknown” prospect article series is infielder Samir Duenez. He can play 1st base and 3rd base. Having played exclusively in Double A in 2017, Duenez put up a decent campaign. The biggest reason you should know about him? Eric Hosmer is a free agent in 2018, and barring a resigning by the Royals, Duenez should get a extended look at the 1st base position in 2018.
His stat line for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals was a solid .252/.304/.402 with 17 home runs and 10 stolen bases. Duenez has shown the ability to steal more, as in 2016 he stole 26 bases.
The power has continued to develop in his young career, as he hit 1 in 2015, 13 in 2016, and 17 in 2017. Still pretty raw in terms of ability, even if Duenez doesn’t swing a job with the Royals in 2018, he should continue to develop into a possible 20/20 guy in the minors. Samir has definitely earned a spot in Triple A and should be on anyone’s deep dynasty league radar.
